NEW BEDFORD SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ASSOCIATION

The mission of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra is to place the world's finest music at the center of the cultural life of the South Coast community. The NBSO enriches the lives of adults and children through the transforming power of great music.
The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra is a professional orchestra located in New Bedford, MA. The NBSO was founded in 1915 by music educator, Clarence Arey. Arey created the orchestra to provide quality performances of classical music to his community along with a chance for his music students to continue their studies outside of school activities.
The NBSO season includes a seven concert series led by Music Director, Dr. David MacKenzie, which includes an annual Thanksgiving concert with Handel’s “Messiah” and the family holiday pops concerts held at the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center in New Bedford, MA. The NBSO also holds local house concerts featuring seasonal guest artists, and musical community events. The NBSO has recently merged with the South Coast Chamber Music Society which is dedicated to presenting high quality chamber music to Greater New Bedford and the communities of Southeastern Massachusetts.
The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra has a 26-member Board of Trustees, a 14-member Chairman’s Advisory Council, and an 11-person staff.
