Zehnder Dance

ZEHNDER DANCE is a New England-based contemporary dance company known for its commanding physicality, boldness and architectural precision, seeking to challenge, excite and surprise the mind through the power of the moving body. The company was established in 2010 to showcase Artistic Director Sarah Zehnder’s articulate and intense vision, which also draws upon her unique choreographic background in hip-hop.

The company’s working method stems from the need to connect while maintaining individuality thus creating a community where human physical connection is most important. Whether through architectural placement of bodies in and through space or complex partnering within duets and trios, there is the constant desire to form relationships that evoke emotion and attention to the human experience while also embracing the uniqueness of the individual.

Sarah Zehnder, Artistic Director of Zehnder Dance, is originally from Ohio, where she began her training as a hip-hop dancer. Zehnder’s work has been produced internationally, performing at Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out, Florence Summer Dance (Italy), DUMBO Dance Festival, Reverb International Dance Festival, Pasadena Dance Festival, the MAD Festival, Midwest RAD Festival, and the Women in Dance Project (NYC and Chicago). Her work has been presented at Dixon Place, Ailey Citigroup Theatre, MMAC, Gowanus Arts, Triskelion Arts, 92nd Y, Greenspace, and CPR.
