My work grapples to pertain to certain aspects of both abstract expressionism and surrealism. Through layers of oil paint, ink and charcoal, geometric and organic forms begin to consume previous layers. As the layering intensifies various marks coincide to a point of satisfaction that unifies the painting creating a sense of space. That space is explored through perspective planes such as walls, and the push and pull of conflicting patterns. Process correlates with the subject matter by being impulsive, and joyful as a child might approach a drawing. Evolving the figures from discernable to veiled, they begin to infuse with the space pushing what may have been a room into an abstracted environment. These environments become the stage that features a fragment of an evolving narrative dealing with the fears and anxiety associated with time and the loss of innocence.
