Steven has been dancing for 18 years. His background includes Breakdancing, Hip Hop, Housedancing and the Martial Art disciplines including Taekwondo, and Capoiera. His dancing has taken him to different states and countries to teach, judge, and compete in events, including Canada, New York, Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Boston, and New Hampshire. His main style of concentration is Housedance, an underground dance style developed in the dance clubs of New York City. He is heavily involved in the preservation of the dance and music through presentations and teaching workshops at area colleges and universities, including the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology, and the English as a Second Language School in Boston. Steven has taught Housedance workshops at the Dance Complex in Cambridge, Mass. for two years and also mentors dance students individually.
Steven has competed in Housedance competitions at events such as Housedance International in NYC, Juste Deboute in Canada, Kings Of New York, NYC, and Winter Music Conference in Miami. He also has been featured in publications such as Somerville Weekly and has been involved in numerous performances and stage shows. He is a member of DanceFusion Family, a collective of Housedancers who are an extension of the worldwide reknowne housedance group called "Dancefusion," which is responsible for sharing Housedance culture globally.
Steven continues to teach, perform, and mentor young dancers through housedance. Currently, he is teaching a series of workshops called "House101" which teaches techniques and the cultural history of Housedance at Green Street Studios in Cambridge, Mass. Additionally, he is also developing "Rthythm Bodies," a platform to mentor young dancers through house, hip hop, and the arts so that they can develop self esteem, courage, and self worth on and off the dance floor.
