SOUTHERN VERMONT ARTS CENTER, INCORPORATED

Our mission is to promote and nurture the arts. We do so by creating an inviting environment for our community to meet, enjoy, and participate in the arts. The SVAC community includes our artist members, our children, our young adults, our area's arts teachers, our full-time residents, our summer residents, our visitors, and our donors. We partner with professional artists and other organizations to offer classes and professional development opportunities for all ages, across the spectrum of visual and performing arts. Scholarships are available. We offer year-round gallery and outdoor exhibitions, as well as performances in the 400-seat Arkell Pavillion. Located on 100 acres of beautiful land in Manchester, SVAC is Vermont's oldest cultural organization.

I Have Worked With

  • SVAC and our area schools work together to create opportunities in the arts for students of all ages from all backgrounds. BBA's Student Success Academy has designed, built and installed sculpture in SVAC's sculpture park under the leadership of BBA arts, Success, and science teachers; various schools' musical and theatrical performances take place several times a year in SVAC's Arkell Pavillion; community schools' visual arts students show their work in student and community-based exhibitions at SVAC; SVAC staff have supported the development of student work at BBA to exhibit at SVAC; our schools participate in SVAC Artist-in-Residence outreach art-making projects; SVAC hosts field trips for our schools to the galleries. We work primarily but not exclusively with schools in Bennington and Rutland counties.

  • Alexandra offers "Hullabaloo" creative movement classes at SVAC weekly. hullabaloodanceshop.com

  • Magda Love works with communities all over the world. She has had two shows at SVAC and spent a month as an artist-in-residence here, during which time she made work with more than 250 students and a dozen teachers in our area, making presentations in Spanish and English and creating murals inspired by the interests and passions of our community's students. http://magdalove.nyc/
