Ryan Thomson, Captain Fiddle, Fiddling Thomsons

I perform solo or with ensembles (Fiddling Thomsons, Crawdad Wranglers, Captain Fiddle Band, Smoke and Mirrors) fiddle, violin, banjo, flute, accordion, pennywhistle, piano, and percussion. I teach ethnic dance. I offer educational group workshops and private lessons on history, lore, performance, music theory.

There are many video examples of my performances and teaching on my You Tube channel - http://www.youtube.com/user/4stringjoe Styles include celtic, Irish, Scottish, English, French Canadian, contra dance, international, ethnic, appalachian, gypsy jazz, pioneer, square dance, couple dance, waltz, polka, cajun two step, jitterbug, swing, bluegrass, old timey, old time, traditional music of New England, sea chanty, ship's fiddler, zydeco, blues, country, rock, more.

I have completely overcome my disability of "Focal Dystonia" by relearning to play violin left handed after formerly being a professional right handed playing violinist. I am happy to speak about my experiences to groups. I teach all of the instruments that I perform on, both to groups and privately to individuals. I have published numerous books and instructional CDs and videos.

Both Ryan and his son Brennish teach and lead workshops via Zoom and Facetime.
