Puppet Motion (Sarah Nolen)

Sarah Nolen is a professional puppeteer and puppet builder. Originally from Austin, Texas, she is currently the third-ever resident artist at Puppet Showplace Theater in Boston. Sarah tours with original puppet productions; teaches workshops and residencies; and builds puppets for both stage and screen. As a puppeteer, Sarah has performed around the United States and internationally in various productions. Her solo works have been chosen for the National Puppet Slams of 2012, 2013 and 2015.
 As a teaching artist, Sarah has worked with ages pre-K through adult, teaching everything from simple crafts to advanced production labs. With a masters degree in Puppet Arts, Sarah has built puppets for productions around New England, including The Boston Pops Orchestra, Connecticut Repertory Theater, and Lion King, Jr. As a member of the company "Good Hearted Entertainment, she also has performed Word Play, a literacy based puppet show, at venues across New England.

I Have Worked With

  • January 2016 to July 2018

    Sarah Nolen has toured her shows twice to the Norfolk Public Library in Connecticut. She most recently performed "The Fairy Tailor" in the July of 2018. 

  • June 2018

    Sarah taught at a weeklong summer camp for ages K-5th grade as part of Puppet Showplace Theater's "Summer Puppet Academy" hosted by Wheelock Family Theatre. She taught hand puppetry manipulation each morning, and sock puppet building in the afternoon. 

  • January 2018 to May 2018

    Through a STARS Grant from the Mass Culturarl Council, Sarah taught a 14 week residency to the K-2 classes at Trotter Elementary in Dorchester, Boston. Each week, Sarah visited three classes, teaching kindergarteners a variety of building and performance techniques over the course of each class. The final show was a viewing of their original puppet shows.
