Jeyanthi Ghatraju is a recipient of the prestigious US President Gold award for service to the community twice - in 2014 and 2018. She is the Founder Director of Natyanjali, a group with a mission to perform for the under-privileged and the needy. Jeyanthi was initiated into Bharatanatyam (an age-old Indian classical dance form) by Guru Madurai Gopinath and she continued her training at the Shivanjali temple of Fine Arts, Coimbatore, India under Guru Suryakala and Guru Vimala Chandrashekar. After completing her graduate studies, Jeyanthi started teaching Bharatanatyam at the Natyanjali in Ottawa, Canada and founded Natyanjali in New England with a mission to perform charity. Since then, Jeyanthi and her students have performed regularly at several nursing homes and senior centers in the New England area as well as raising funds for several worthy causes. Jeyanthi has sixteen student arangetrams (debut) to her credit. her charity work extends to organizations from far and wide, including UNICEF, Ekal Vidhyalaya, Vision Aid, WeCare Charity, ASHA for Education, to name a few; Jeyanthi is affiliated to the Alagappa Performing Arts Academy (Alagappa University, Karaikudi, India) and offers Certificate, Diploma and Degree program in performing arts. Over Twenty students have graduated so far. Her outreach assignments include special projects on Indian dance and Bharatanatyam for temples, museums, libraries and churches in New England, Texas and Canada. Jeyanthi has choreographed several dance productions over the years for Natyanjali and worked on collaborative projects with artists from India and the New England dancers and dance teachers, Jeyanthi was the first President of KHMC (Karnatic Hindustani Music Circle) and currently serves as its Treasurer. Jeyanthi is a Plant Geneticist by training and a Software QA Engineer by profession.
