Jenai Cutcher West recently moved to New Haven from New York City. She tap dances, writes about dance, teaches dance, and makes dance movies. She has performed with Brenda Bufalino, Savion Glover, Derick Grant, Lynn Schwab, Rumba Tap, Ritmico, and Tap City and has appeared locally in the Rebound Dance Festival and the International Festival of Arts and Ideas. Her first documentary, Thinking On Their Feet, has screened at The Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, OH, Southern Utah International Film Festival, and Newfilmmakers Film Festival in New York. Jenai has written three books for children about dance, contributed articles and reviews to The Village Voice, Dance magazine, Dance Teacher, and several online publications, and has recently completed Columbus Moves: A Brief History of Contemporary Dance, a book about dance in Columbus, Ohio. She has an MFA in Dance and Technology from The Ohio State University.
Jenai Cutcher West currently teaches tap dance and body percussion at Salve Regina University, the Educational Center for the Arts, and Neighborhood Music School.
She hosts community tap classes every Tuesday night at Trinity Lutheran Church.
