NH
CAMS was founded in 2005 by director Edward Carroll. Located in Mr. Carroll's hometown of Hanover, NH, CAMS is a community that is intensely local, yet has an international reach and renown. Well known and respected in the Hanover area, CAMS has maintained a good relationship with local residents by hosting free to the public masterclasses and concerts that feature CAMS Resident Artists and attendees. The international appeal of CAMS initially came through its distinguished faculty. Now, the CAMS Festival earns its reputation from recommendations among advanced students of the trumpet, cello, and percussion, as well as the acclaim of its Resident Artists. Since its inception, CAMS has grown in number of applicants and attendees, capacity to present high quality new music to its NH audience, ability to gain new audiences, and musical distinction. Throughout, the Festival has remained consistent in its purpose. It is a summer festival dedicated to the training of advanced contemporary musicians who are in or have recently completed graduate studies. These emerging professional musicians seek further preparation for their participation in (typically American) ensembles and symphony orchestras, and for leadership roles in the contemporary music world.
In 2020, CAMS planned to launch its first cello seminar, led by cellist Seth Parker Woods and six other internationally renowned cellists. The percussion seminar, which has been annual since 2005, was put on hold in 2020 to facilitate this new program. Meanwhile, the lauded trumpet seminar will continue training the next generation of leading American trumpeters.
