Brass Venture

In 2001, five brassy friends decided they wanted to get together more often, have a beer, and play music, and as a result, Brass Venture was born. Founding members Erich Ledebuhr (a wide variety of trumpets), Jeff Hoefler (a wide variety of trumpets), Hilary Ledebuhr (horn, Erich’s wife), Jamison Clark (trombone, if muted it’s under duress), and Chip Halt (tuba, and once in a while bass trombone), have experienced sixteen years of time flying while having fun.

Our good times began with our debut recital, a program of 100% Eric Ewazen. It turned into a collaboration and friendship with Eric that continues to this day (keep reading!). Our debut complete, we decided we should make a CD, and had the honor of recording all of Berklee composer Thomas Hojnacki’s brass quintet literature, including two full-length quintets he wrote for us.

Our sweet sixteen years have included a myriad of performances, including recitals around New England, educational performances, solo performances, private engagements and more. One of our favorite things to do is head up to Bar Harbor, Maine, where for thirteen years we have had the pleasure of being the quintet-in-residence at the Bar Harbor Music Festival. This past year was the festival’s 50th anniversary, as well as the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary. We worked with Eric Ewazen once more, and were honored to premiere the quintet he wrote for us to commemorate these occasions. It’s called Acadia!, and it celebrates the beauty and grandeur that is Acadia National Park.

When we are not Brass Venturing, one of us is a middle school principal, one of us is a middle school band director, one of us is a freelancer and private teacher, one of us is a symphony musician and sales consultant, and one of us is a sound engineer. We’ll let you guess who’s who while you listen to the concert. We really hope you enjoy hearing us as much as we enjoy playing for you!
