Fleece On Earth has been dressing infants through size 8/9 in fun and functional clothing since 1991.
Raised in Vermont, far from any shopping mall, my love affair with fashion began when my mother taught me to sew as a young girl. Following my passion for fabrics, fibers and all things fashion I studied at the School of Fashion Design at Kent State University in Ohio. Upon graduation I moved to Los Angeles finding work with a children's wear company specializing in little girls' dresses. Throughout my years at design school I always imagined that I would become a women's wear designer. I never for a moment thought that I would end up in children's clothing. I guess fate had other plans for me. Although the beaches of California had their appeal it was the Green Mountains of Vermont that beckoned and I returned to Vermont where I founded Fleece On Earth.
The philosophy behind Fleece on Earth has always been to accentuate the natural charm of children while allowing their unique personalities to shine through. My original designs have become known for the use of sophisticated colour in simple silhouettes, making them extremely attractive yet never overdone. My inspiration is, of course, the kids themselves, but also all the wonderful fabrics, glorious colours, and fabulous fibers available. I am, without a doubt, a fiber-addict. Exceptional materials, good fit, and quality construction play a key role in defining the Fleece On Earth collection. By using only the finest materials my clothing is as comfortable to wear as it is durable and easy to care for. I believe the joy and fun that I have in everything that I design is visible when people see my collection - it's hard not to see that I love what I do, and I'm proud to say that it's all made right here in the Green Mountains of Vermont!
My areas of expertise include design, pattern draping/drafting, garment construction, fitting, and textile design. I am computer literate on a Mac, and have vast experience with home and industrial sewing machines including overlock, flat lock and straight stitch. Additionally I am well versed in hand and machine knitting and multi-shaft floor loom weaving. I have many years experience working alone, but work well collaboratively having worked with independent seamstresses and home-knitters on the construction of my own clothing line. One of the highlights of my year is teaching a fiber arts project at my son’s grade school for the past four years.
My hand loomed knits, comfy sportswear, sumptuous fleece outerwear and accessories, and heirloom quality handwoven items can be found at the Fleece On Earth Company Store in Ludlow, Vermont and online at www.FleeceOnEarth.com.
