Born in Maputo, the art and culture-rich capital of Mozambique, Albino Mbie is an multi award-winning musician, guitarist, singer, composer, and sound engineer. Fueled by the resourcefulness and determination that have always characterized Mozambicans, Mbie built his first guitar from a 5 liter can of oil, scrap wood, and electric cords -- at the tender age of 16. Drawn to the street music of his native Maputo, Mbie soon started playing with bands in the local scene.
Albino Mbie makes music that aims to combine disparate entities into an organic whole while retaining their unique, undiluted flavors -- the music of his native Mozambique, coupled with his experiences living in the US and traveling to many other places in the world, overlap pleasingly to treat the audience ear with an original sound of Afro-pop meets Moz-Jazz. Imbued with a worldly vibe, Mbie’s incredibly approachable music exudes sophistication, and yet simplicity.
