Tyler Dobrowsky

Tyler Dobrowsky is a freelance theater director and producer. For over fifteen years, he worked at Trinity Rep in their education, community engagement and artistic departments, where he spearheaded a number of initiatives, most especially YASI, Trinity Rep’s summer camp for young people, and, working with Marta Martinez and Rhode Island Latino Arts, Teatro en el Verano, a free, bilingual, mobile theater program that brings English/Spanish theater to communities across Rhode Island. As director of new play development at Trinity, Tyler commissioned a number of writers, including George Brant, Charise Castro-Smith, Jackie Sibblies Drury, Miranda Rose Hall, James Ijames, Katie Pearl, Deb Salem Smith and Lauren Yee. Tyler also produced Mike Stanton’s New York Times best-seller, The Prince of Providence, adapted by George Brant, which became Trinity Rep’s highest selling show of all time. Directing credits at Trinity Rep include: A Tale of Two Cities, Into the Breeches! By George Brant (world premiere), A Midsummer Night’s Dream, A Flea in Her Ear, Julius Caesar, A Christmas Carol, Love Alone by Deb Salem Smith (world premiere). Directing credits at other theaters includes: A.R.T./Oberon, Asolo Rep, Gamm Theater, Heritage Theater Festival, PlayMakers/UNC, Public Theater/Under the Radar festival. Tyler has taught at the Brown/Trinity MFA program, Rhode Island College, NYU/Tisch, RISD as well as a number of other universities. Tyler is a proud member of Stage Directors and Choreographers union, and sits on the board of Rhode Island Latino Arts, as well as the Spectrum Theater Ensemble, an organization dedicated to providing opportunities for neurodiverse artists. Tyler went to undergrad at Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, and received his Masters at Brown University. He lives in the best city in the world, Providence, RI, with his wife, Taibi

    I have worked at the Gamm as a freelance director for many years, directing plays such as The Big Meal by Dan LeFranc, Morality Play by Tony Estrella based on the book by Barry Unsworth and Incognito by Nick Payne. 

  • September 2006

    I worked at Trinity Rep starting in 2003 in their educaton, community engagement, new play development and artistic departments. I stopped working there in the summer of 2020 due to COVID-19.
