I have my B.F.A. in painting and drawing, with a minor in printmaking, from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. I have an M.A. in art education and an Ed.D. in education from University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati OH. I also received a C.G.S. (certificate of graduate study) in the Professional Applications of the Creative and Expressive Arts from Salve Regina University in Newport, RI.
I have taught art at every level, from pre-school through graduate school, and in both public, private, and museum settings. I was also a features writer for many years for ArtsAround Boston Magazine and the Nashua Telegraph (newspaper). I am currently owner and facilitator of expressive arts workshops under my business, Spiral Arts.
I have facilitated workshops on Art as a Healing Modality for medical professionals at Dartmouth Hospital, and employees at Dartmouth-Hitchcock facilities. I have co-led half-day retreats at Alnoba in Kensington, NH along with Dr. Deb LeClair, using the arts as part of a mindfulness practice. I am currently working one-on-one with a woman in Connecticut who is exploring her sense of purpose as her life is in transition. At Kimball Jenkins School of Art in Concord, NH I am currently facilitating an on-going series callse "HeART and Soul", an arts-basd support group for parents and others coping with loved ones with addiction. I'm also facilitating an on-going art-based mentoring series for at-risk teens called "Art + Life".
As an artist, my current work combines writings with images. The writing itself is treated as image, though it may sometimes also be read with effort. They are visual meditations on the meanings of words.
I completed my first novel, Jubilee, about the power of creativity in community. I have also completed a book tentatively titled “Deep Breath, Deep Dive”, which explores using intuitive expressive arts techniques to discover a more deeply personal artistic path.
