Seacoast African American Cultural Center

The mission of the Seacoast African American Cultural Center is to celebrate the lives and achievements of black people with emphasis on the unique story of African Americans in the Seacoast region, and to infuse all people, especially young people, with knowledge of and appreciation for the history and culture we all share. Our purpose is to provide a central location for information and resources concerning the African American experience. A cultural resource center for such activities as network and collaborating with other Seacoast organizations. We also would like to make SAACC a destination for area schools.   Seacoast African American Cultural Center (SAACC) help people of all ages and backgrounds with a focus on the youth, to appreciate the rich local history of Africans and African Americans through effective programs exhibits and events, facilitated by experts who are knowledgeable and passionate about our work. The benefits of the local resource extend beyond the walls of the museum and exhibit space into the community at large, including area schools, libraries and businesses. This includes ongoing outreach and collaboration with the Portsmouth School System, and a special relationship with the middle school and the University of New Hampshire. SAACC is a no-frills, well-run, cost efficient nonprofit organization that is worthy of ongoing support, advocacy and donations. We believe that SAACC can inspire Seacoast and surrounding town's residents as well as out of town visitors to learn more about the largely untold local history of African Americans, and celebrate the lives and achievements of individuals whose contributions continue to inform, shape and enrich our community.

Another important part of our mission is to further the education of our young citizens by providing scholarships to minority high school students here in the Seacoast area.

With concerts, educational programs, exhibits from notable artists, an active book group, and valuable collections of African artifacts, the Seacoast African American Cultural Center (SAACC) has become the hub of activity to highlight the contributions of individuals of African descent in the seacoast community.
