Odissi, one of the principal Indian classical dances, traces its roots to the mythical Natya Veda and the historical ancient performing arts treatise Natyashastra. Reela Hota,is one its foremost exponents.
Initiated into Odissi at the age of eight, Reela Hota's spiritual leanings and long association with her ashram of her spiritual guru Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswati, prompted her to deviate from the usual dance presentations of mythological themes and present spiritual philosophy like Yoga and Tantra instead. This pioneering work was highly appreciated by critics and audiences alike.
Reela has performed extensively in India,Mauritius,Zambia,Zimbabwe,South Africa,Bangladesh,Sweden,Slovakia,Hungary and taught the the village girls of India, dance as a selfless service. She is opening a dance school in Boston, MA
