Phil Rosenthal's rich baritone voice, instrumental skills on banjo, guitar and mandolin, and songwriting ability have won him acclaim in the fields of folk and bluegrass music. Selected Connecticut State Troubadour in 1994, he was lead singer and guitarist for many years in the seminal band the Seldom Scene. His compositions have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Bill Monroe, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and many others.
Currently Phil performs as a solo artist, and in the trio The Rosenthals (www.therosenthals.org) with son Daniel Rosenthal and daughter Naomi Sommers, blending bluegrass, jazz and folk in an original style.
In addition to performing his own music, Phil performs the program "Songs of Pete Seeger", celebrating Seeger's music and life in a lively concert of songs and stories about the folk icon.
