As an artist and educator, I have a strong commitment to nurturing our connection to nature through creativity, dynamic approaches to education, work and daily living. Services that I offer include teaching diverse communities and ages, public and fine art commissions, and design projects. I embrace new experiences, perspectives and ways to creatively collaborate for ecological & social justice.
Commissions: painting, sculpture + public art
Education: visual art + creativity classes or workshops; portfolio reviews.
Drawing + Illustration (handdrawn or digital): murals, commissions, set design assets
Design/Marketing: identity, concept boards, branding, social media and online content for aritsts and non-profits (e.g. instagram, squarespace)
I weave materials and ideas together with the intention of allowing these materials the room to breathe, while honoring the evidence of the hand at work. I strive to find simple, minimal ways of representing the expansiveness contained within the fleeting moments, experiences and things around us. This work beckons a slowing down, attentive viewing and an opportunity to perceive complexities in the nature of light, space, form and dimension. It is subtle territory in which I hope the viewer may engage with the work and experience expansive moments of looking. The work offers a path to ponder simplicity in complexity, and the fertile realm of uncertainty.
On a trek through woods, I notice the complexity in scale and color of a mossy plateau. Sightlines atop a mountain peak suggest perspectival extremes – In the studio, wood and canvas forms echo topography; the amplification of a shadow behind a canvas parallels light and color shifting at times of day.
I had the great privilege to walk the Pacific Crest Trail for over 5 months of 2019. It was a profound experience being immersed in nature, living simply and minimally. I look forward to investigating opportunities for sharing the joy and knowledge of this experience through my work and collaborations. I'm interested in experimental approaches to education, with a focus on nature immersion, living materials and exploration of outdoor studio + classroom opportunities.
