Lauri MacLean

Lauri MacLean has dedicated her career to the advancement of artistic jazz dance.  Noted for a distinctive style that blends athleticism with technique, she has spent the past twenty- five years establishing her reputation as a premiere teacher and choreographer of jazz, most notably through her former studio, Jazzworx.  Her students have gone on to work in theater, national TV commercials, prime time television and in live concert companies as well as gained acceptance into prestigious collegiate dance programs.  MacLean trained in Chicago, L.A. and NYC with many jazz dance legends, including Gus Giordano, Luigi and Frank Hatchett.  The formation of her professional company, Velocity, in 2008, allowed her to expand the boundaries of her own creativity with a sophisticated choreography that fuses myriad styles into her own unique blend of jazz.  Velocity has performed in Bridgeport, NYC, New Haven and at the SoNo Arts Celebration.  In June of 2012 she was designated Artist of the Month by the Bridgeport Arts and Cultural Council in recognition of her extensive artistic contribution to Bridgeport.  A Chicago native, she holds a BA in Anthropology from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.
