Kristen teaches a variety of two and three-dimensional art. She has the most experience teaching abstract and intuitive painting, digital and darkroom photography, and stop motion animation and claymation. She has experience teaching students from ages six to 66 and beyond, in mixed-age classes, including learners with special needs, learning differences, and emotional and behavioral challenges. 

Kristen makes and teaches art in a broad range of media. She holds a BA in Studio Art and Psychology with a focus on child development from the University of Vermont. She’s a licensed Art educator with highly qualified teacher status in the State of Vermont. As a teaching artist, Kristen splits her time between her home studio and the classroom. She teaches at Burlington City Arts and Davis Studio and has also taught visual arts for four schools in the Franklin County Supervisory Union After school program. 

Kristen’s own work focuses on intuitive mixed media painting and installation projects. She exhibits her work locally and regionally in both group and solo shows and has been selected for several juried exhibits. Her work is also held in private collections. She has completed artist residencies at the Rensing Center in South Carolina and the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont.

    Teaching Artist/Instructor- workshops, after school & summer camps     2011 to Present

    Provide hands-on, activity-based learning opportunities in basic and intermediate analog, digital, and stop-motion photographic processes to a spectrum of learners (including students with emotional and behavioral challenges). Developed students’ knowledge of photography as an artistic medium; how to work safely and creatively with photographic chemicals and materials as well as digital editing software. Students learn how to analyze, edit, critique, and exhibit work.
    Co-teaching experience— hand-building and wheel ceramics, printmaking, and digital filmmaking summer camps (ages 6-16)
