FIRST NIGHT BOSTON

First Night, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization that produces the First Night festival, the largest New Year's Eve celebration in North America. Integral to the organization's mission is the Neighborhood Network, a year-round community-based outreach and arts education program that directly serves young people and residents of Boston's neighborhoods and surrounding communities. The festival attracts over one million people annually during a day-long celebration. Forty indoor and outdoor venues throughout the City showcase the work of more than 1,000 artists during 250 performances and exhibitions.

Established in 1976 by a group of Boston artists and commumity residents who sought an alternative to traditional New Year's Eve revelry, First Night has grown from a small arts event centered on the Boston Common to a city-wide festival of the arts with related year-round community programs. Its long-standing mission is to build and celebrate community through the arts. First Night showcases the breadth of Boston's cultural and artistic community in a wide wide variety of quality programming for children, families and people of all ages. Over the years, this unique concept has served as a model for nearly 200 similar festivals worldwide.
