Pamela: Circus Artist & Choreographer

Pamela is an artistic director, choreographer, and international performing artist; an aerialist, acrobat, gymnast, and dancer. Pamela's creative work is versatile yet studied. She is knowledgeable in Afro - Cuban, Afro - Haitian, Afro - Brazilian, Jamaican, and other Caribbean and Latin Dance forms including: salsa, cha cha, cumbia, merengue, rueda de casino, and bachata. Pamela enjoys integrating movement from the African Diaspora into contemporary dance styles.

She has done commercials, award shows, large-scale events and spectacular acrobatic shows, like Le Reve at the Wynn in Las Vegas. Pamela is the artistic director of Awaken Circus and Dance Theater as well as the eARTh Studio at the University of California in Irvine.

Pamela is also well versed in collaborating with multicultural and multidisciplinary artists, art direction, artistic management, project development, program creation, program coordinating, event planning and fundraising. She has worked with performing arts organizations throughout the US and internationally.

Pamela received her degree in Cultural and Social Anthropology from Stanford University. She completed field research projects and worked with nonprofit organizations throughout Africa, India, Latin America and the Caribbean.  Broadly, her research interests include: conflict and peacebuilding, sustainability and the environment, social justice, equity, and empowerment, cultural development, history, and folklore.

Pamela considers herself an acrobatic storyteller of African American and African Diaspora histories and traditions, as well as spiritual tales and morals. Pamela specializes in creating socially relevant and globally engaged performances. Her vision is to generate art that inspires people to think critically and contribute positively to their world.

I Have Worked With

  • October 2019

    Choreographer and featured performer in a premiere annual event for Halloween, Día de los Muertos, Chirstmas, and other winter holidays. The event is outdoor and hosts hundreds of thousands of guests every year. I have been hired year after year as a featured aerialist.

  • August 2019

    Aerialist for MTV's Video Music Awards. I performed as part of Missy Elliott's Icon Award performance.

  • June 2019

    Aerial specialty performer for LED Entertainment. The company specializes in emmersive theater and corporate events.
