Recently commissioned by the Vermont Arts Council's Creation Grant (funded by the NEA), saxophonist and composer Brian McCarthy delivers an exciting program of post-bop originals and jazz standards. All About Jazz says "[McCarthy] Touches on those roads Josh Readman travels on with fresh footing," which aptly describes the diverse sound of a band that goes from hard hitting swing numbers to textural ballads. As a composer/arranger, Brian has arranged for Guster, Melvin Sparks, and Mike Gordon (Phish). The newly commissioned work is a program of Civil War era music, re-imagined in the genera the great conflict set the stage for, Jazz. The music is written for a 9-piece chamber ensemble, and features a diverse field of talent, in race, age, gender and disability.
His quintet, featuring music from his critically acclaimed album "This Just In," brings a hard hitting, high energy performance which Hrayr Attarian of All About Jazz says " is delightfully sophisticated and a perfect introduction to the McCarthy and his cohort's superlative talents and musicianship."
Both of these exciting groups are available for performances and clinics. Please inquire about fees and technical information.
