Brooklyn Strong: Local Leukemia Society located and created in Vermont due to the lack of their being a society to support the community. It started with Brooklyn Simone Williams who was 7 and diagnosed in 2019 with chronic myeloid Leukemia (A type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow with excess immature white blood cells). This group was founded in May 2020 to gather support for Brooklyn and spread awareness of the illness Leukemia. The motivation for this non-profit was brought about by her paternal grandmother Lydia Diamond due to Brooklyn's doctor requesting a special test that was needed for her and her insurance at the time stating that they didn't feel that it was necessary. In which caused a fire to burn to urge more awareness to the community. Lydia Diamond is the Brooklyn Strong Advocate due to this touching so close to home as well as there being a lack of education about Leukemia. While being the advocate of Brooklyn Strong Lydia noticed that there were more places in which the community was lacking, this taking place in the Black and Brown communities which has cause another flow of empowerment called Black Girls Lead Vt.
