Don is an abstract painter. He exhibits internationally and is collected here and abroad. Don has been selected as one of The 10 Artists to Watch in 2014 by Winsor-Newton UK and received two awards in 2015 a Purchase award and a Publishing award by Editions Limited at The Annual Arts Come Alive National competition in Cincinnati OH. Don studied life drawing with the renowned Canadian Artist Leroy Jensen and pursued painting after his close associations and collaborations with artists Alfred Tulk, Kiki Smith and Clifford Smith. Because of the mentoring and friendships he had with these three distinctly different artists he was exposed to a continuous dialogue about art and this inspired him to become an abstract painter. An opportunity to become a docent under the tutelage of Janet Saleigh-Dickson at the Yale Art Gallery was the pivotal point that inspired him to paint full-time. Don is also an accomplished puppeteer and guitarist.
