"96 Inc Artists' Collaborative, founded by the Kenmore Writers Group, a group of writers that originally met weekly and later on occasion since 1987, incorporated as a not-for-profit in November 1992. 96 Inc received national recognition over the past nine years for its innovative ways of supporting new and established artists and its mentoring of teenagers. The goal of 96 Inc is that of integrating the arts into the community and integrating the professional and the beginner, the teacher and the student, the artist and the artisan. Using writing and literature as a base, 96 Inc supports local artists by presenting their works in usual and unusual spaces. Founded on inclusiveness and nurturing, it places a strong belief in the potential and accomplishments of young people and artists of all ages.
In its many workshops (more than one thousand since 1992), 96 Inc follows the principles of a one-room schoolhouse-forming a natural integration and connection of people on all levels. Teachers and leaders offer support and suggestions rather than criticism. 96 Inc focuses on the process rather than the result and therein lies the power that students discover in themselves."
